March in the Library!

Have you been to a library lately? You know that place with all those smelly books and funny people who whisper all the time... it's an amazing thing... you can pick up one of those books and have an experience unlike anyone else.  Learn something new... travel to a foreign land... find out which librarian plays their music the loudest... Be willing to uncover that hidden treasure... March into the library!

And don't forget to check out the artwork on the book covers, in the display cases, and on the walls.  For the entire month of March, some of my paintings are on display.  Check it out... and let me know if you recognize something or if you decide to venture around Burlington to find a place you treasure!

A Masterpiece!

Someone once said, “A blank sheet of paper is God’s way of letting you know what it feels like to be God.”  It’s a new year; make it a great one!

Boys and their PINK socks

Congrats to the Northwest Cabarrus Middle Schoolers!  I’m so glad to have been a part of the October “pink out” and help raise money for Breast Cancer awareness by drawing kids having a great time with friends as they came together for a great cause: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=968933587458&set=vb.171938866182284&type=2&theater
Someone once asked me with a great deal of frustration… “Why does everybody care so much about BREAST cancer?” I immediately thought to myself, “Why WOULDN’T everybody care about breast cancer?  I realized then that this person wasn’t aware of anyone they knew having breast cancer, but had a loved one with another form of cancer.  I, like so many others, have a history of breast cancer in my family, but like this person, I am affected by other cancers and life-threatening diseases that cannot be forgotten… and won’t with everyone’s support.

Peanuts, Pomegranates, and a Blue Ribbon!

I took a little road trip to see friends this weekend and am glad I got to spend time with this awesome pair at the Edenton Peanut Festival.  They have great artistic talent and an eye for fashion and craft. Melanie was selling handmade feather hair accessories, cigar jewelry boxes, and pocketbooks while George showcased his painting skills.  I set up some framed abstract mixed medias like the one below and got to hang out with some cute kids too!

The next day I headed home for the BAL Fine Arts Competition Opening Reception.  I had entered three pieces and was excited to see the variety of artwork on display as well as see which would be receiving awards.  I’ve been in juried shows before, but not an art "competition" so I was very excited to find out that I won 1st place!

The artwork is on display for all of October and there is a lot of nice work… so stop in if you’re in the area!
