Peanuts, Pomegranates, and a Blue Ribbon!

I took a little road trip to see friends this weekend and am glad I got to spend time with this awesome pair at the Edenton Peanut Festival.  They have great artistic talent and an eye for fashion and craft. Melanie was selling handmade feather hair accessories, cigar jewelry boxes, and pocketbooks while George showcased his painting skills.  I set up some framed abstract mixed medias like the one below and got to hang out with some cute kids too!

The next day I headed home for the BAL Fine Arts Competition Opening Reception.  I had entered three pieces and was excited to see the variety of artwork on display as well as see which would be receiving awards.  I’ve been in juried shows before, but not an art "competition" so I was very excited to find out that I won 1st place!

The artwork is on display for all of October and there is a lot of nice work… so stop in if you’re in the area!

A Simple Balloon

What a night.  I twisted motorcycles and dogs and unicorns.  I made monkeys and countless flowers and swords.  Do you want to know what the most interesting request of the night was though?   A little boy came over, waited very patiently in line, and then asked very politely and very seriously, “Can you make a white circle?”  You were expecting something more complex right… I know I was.  Your guess is as good as mine as to why he wanted a white circle; I thought to myself, oh no a perfect circle is so hard.  Then I thought about Steve Jobs:
“That’s been one of my mantras – focus and simplicity.  Simple can be harder than complex:  You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple.  But it’s worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains.”
